The Black Horse at Rectory Bank is possibly one of the oldest pubs in the area. Records from 1847 indicate that the pub has been run by four blacksmiths for the last 148 years. It was a coaching inn during the early 1800s. In 1929 it was owned by Isaac Tucker & Co of Gateshead then became a Whitbread pub and is currently owned by Pete Zulu a former Toy Dolls member.
