Heritage Pubs of Sunderland & South Tyneside

This site is relatively new & still being developed with a lot more content still to be added! So please keep checking back!

Eventually we hope to add information about all the pubs & clubs locally with a heritage or historic interest. We will also add information on former pubs & clubs especially were part of the original building remains as a visual reminder.

The intent of this site is to give a focus to “Heritage Pubs” within the boundaries of Sunderland & South Tyneside CAMRA. (The Campaign for Real Ale). Note clubs & breweries with heritage interest will also feature

What we mean by a “Heritage Pub”:

  • Pubs with a historic interior, or remaining original fragments. Especially those pubs recognised by CAMRA’s Pub Heritage Group, who maintain a National Inventory of such pubs based on a three star grading.
  • Pubs & clubs in a building listed by Historic England using a grading system of Grade 1, Grade 2* & Grade 2.
  • Pubs & clubs in a building recognised by a Historic England “Blue Plaque”
  • Pubs & clubs locally listed” by a local authority thus recognised as having significant importance to the local community under the Historic England “Local Heritage Lists” scheme
  • We will also highlight pubs & clubs sited inside Conservation Areas designated & managed by Local Authorities. While not all pubs & clubs within a conservation area have individual heritage or historic interest many do & the area around them very much does!

If you see anything that needs correcting or have additional information you’d like us to include please contact the team HERE.
