Ashbrooke Conservation Area lies just south of Sunderland City Centre. The northern edge skirts Park Lane Bus and Metro Interchange and then south down either side of Ryhope Road ass far as Backhouse park, then west nearly to Durham Road. The area is mostly residential ; there is a pub and a club however. There are links to more information on the CAMRA Website <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Until fairly recently The Ashbrooke <\/strong>sold real ale and was a regular in the top three Branch Club of the Year Annual voting. To get the right photo angle had to take a circuitous route along Ashbrooke Road Ashbrooke Sports Club, Sunderland – CAMRA Experience<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n

The photo at the top is from 1946. The two below were taken in 1972 and 1988 respectively. All three from Ron Lawson and the Sunderland Antiquarian Society <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

Langham Towe<\/strong>r was built in 1889 and is a. Grade II listed building <\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was Sunderland High School until 2016 when closure was announced due to falling numbers. It reopened in the summer of 2021 , with part of it being a craft bar with street food.. It is currently closed again with a planning application submitted to the council for change of use. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
