West Boldon Conservation Area <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

The West Boldon Conservation Area<\/strong> runs from the River Don to the west, taking in Newcastle Road for abut half a mile towards East Boldon. It extends north towards Boldon Colliery along North Road. There are three pubs in the CA, although at the time of writing ( April 24) , one was closed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Black Horse at Rectory Bank is possibly one of the oldest pubs in the area. Records from 1847 indicate that the pub has been run by four blacksmiths for the last 148 years. It was a coaching inn during the early 1800s. In 1929 it was owned by Isaac Tucker & Co of Gateshead then became a Whitbread pub and is currently owned by Pete Zulu a former Toy Dolls member.<\/p>\n\n\n

Red Lion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

The Red Lion possibly dates from 1865 and was originally called the Lion Inn.  It was owned by Bass Charrington in 1961 and now Star (Heineken).<\/p>\n\n\n

Wheatsheaf<\/p>\n\n\n

The Wheatsheaf dates from approx. 1828. In 1931 it was owned by Robert Deuchar Ltd then Newcastle Breweries and it is now owned by Stonegate.<\/p>\n\n\n
